Youngsters held - Official Argyle match report (from Official PAFC site)

Truro City 1 Argyle 1

THE Argyle Development XI starting line-up for their game against Calor League Premier Division Truro City at Treyew Road on Wednesday showed six changes from the all-apprentice and schoolboy squad that had held Callington Town to a draw two days earlier.

In came young professionals Ben Purrington, Jamie Richards, Isaac Vassell, Matt Lecointe and Tyler Harvey – plus apprentice Ryan Lane. All bar Purrington had been involved in the first-team friendly against Bath City at Twerton Park the previous evening and maybe the reason that the Pilgrims looked slightly jaded was because of their efforts just 24 hours earlier and the fact they had not returned from Somerset until the early hours that morning.

Argyle’s cause was further hampered after only 25 minutes when former England Youth international Lecointe had to limp off with what looked like a bad knee injury.

Seb Broomfield and co-striker Liam Eddy netted inside the opening half-hour only to have their efforts disallowed for offside.

The nearest the Greens came to scoring in the first half was an angled shot from close range by apprentice winger Solomon Wheatley that former Pilgrim Ollie Chenoweth turned away for a corner.

Both teams fielded a number of substitutes in the second half and, just as the contest looked likely to meander to a goal-less stalemate, Argyle struck.

The Pilgrims were awarded a penalty for a handball offence  in a crowded goalmouth melee and Harvey despatched the spot-kick, with clinical efficiency, into the bottom corner of Chenoweth’s goal.

Truro brought on former Argyle youngster Jake Vickers in a triple substitution, and the latter had the final say on the result three minutes into added time. Referee Adam Bromley adjudged that Purrington tripped Vickers inside the box and the tall striker converted the penalty himself to ensure the hosts gained a deserved share of the spoils.
