City Alerts - first for 2012, by Mike Truscott

PREVIEW, away to Welling United, League, 3 pm, Saturday, 07 January 2012.  City travelling up this evening for pre-match overnight stay.

TEAM NEWS, from Lee.   BARRY HAYLES:  "He will meet us there tomorrow.  He's getting a lot closer to returning and we may be able to put him on the bench tomorrow; we will see how he feels on the day.  It's no good putting him on for 20 minutes and then maybe losing him again for another two or three weeks, but he's sounding positive and he just might be able to do a job for us tomorrow."

STEWART YETTON:  "He was jogging last night, which is promising, but he says it's still sore and I think he's still two or three weeks away."  MARCUS MARTIN:  "Trained last night and not feeling too bad at the moment, so he will be in contention."   TIM SANDERCOMBE:  "Off crutches now and walking okay.  He says it still feels sore, but it's getting easier day by day, which is encouraging."

MARTIN WATTS:  "Has seen a specialist and we are waiting for final arrangements for him to have an operation.  The target now is next season, and Martin remains very much involved with the club and anxious to get back into action."

WELLING UNITED: currently third in League, with 44 points from 23 matches, won 13, drawn 5, lost 5, goals for 48, against 32.  Last three results:  lost 1-0 at Dartford (on Monday), drew 1-1 at home to Dartford, lost 4-3 at Sutton United.    Treyew Road, November 5:  City  2  Welling  3.
UPCOMING FIXTURES (all League, 3 pm) Sat Jan 14, Chelmsford, home;  Sat Jan 21, Bromley away;  Sat Jan 28, Staines Town, home.

SUNDAY INDEPENDENT Truro City column.   Sad to report that the regular Truro City column is now no more, following cutbacks at the Indy.  I launched it just under two years ago, but it has always been regarded as a "luxury" column - Bath City and Weston-super-Mare, for instance, have not enjoyed the same privilege of a dedicated column.

However, I have been assured that space will be found for "occasional snippets" on City, so I will continue to supply in that direction, just not so regularly, and to such length, as hitherto.   So look out for occasional Indy pieces either under my name or as part of general Conference and Southern league round-ups.  Also, I just might sneak in the occasional MT Personal Piece "extra" with City Alerts.

Every cloud has a silver lining, as the say, and I'm pleased to confirm that I will be continuing City Alerts at least until the end of this season and hopefully for a long time to come.  Quite by coincidence, I had decided during November/December that I would have to give up all my voluntary work for City through greatly increased work commitments (better than expected results with my new Golden Replay Biographies).

But with the Indy relieving me of my biggest single City commitment - researching and writing a 650-word column every week - I can continue to accommodate City Alerts, which consequently gets a reprieve!  (And while we're on the subject please always remember that any City Alerts subscriber wanting to register for the Golden Replay Biographies service is entitled to a ten per cent discount on the prices quoted on the GR web site.)
